Flip the Switch…and Become a Fat Burning Machine

I am a problem solver. I find solutions for my clients who face big challenges.  Whether they are politicians like Bill Clinton, Mike Bloomberg or Hillary Clinton who seek elective office, or major companies like Facebook, Playboy, the National Hockey League or Estee Lauder who need help with branding, I am the guy people turn to when they want to get the job done. I’ve solved a lot of problems in the past two decades!

But while I was finding solutions for everyone else, I faced one myself that I couldn’t seem to fix.  My weight. I had been gaining 1 to 2 pounds every year for most of my adult life, and the pounds had piled up to a critical stage. It wasn’t that I hadn’t tried to stop the weight gain. In fact, I applied my usual drive and dedication to this life project—exercising regularly and eating all the “right” diet foods. But no matter what I tried—even when I was running hard and eating the fewest number of calories I could manage–nothing changed. I was still gaining 1 to 2 pounds a year.

My body seemed to be programmed for this weight gain. It was if my metabolic switch was stuck on OFF. And guess what? There really was a switch and it really was turned OFF. Who knew?

I learned how to flip the switch, and it changed my life.

When I hunkered down and started doing my homework, meeting with doctors, nutritionists and trainers, I discovered an important key about my physiology that changed everything: From the time I was born, my body was designed to store the food I was eating as fat rather than burn it as energy.  And it wasn’t just my problem. I learned that 1 out of 3 Americans (over 100 million people!) were also programmed to store fat rather than burn it.

Our metabolism is like a finely tuned machine. When we fuel it with the wrong foods, it shuts OFF the fat burning switch and begins to store fat. But when we consume the right fuel, the switch flips ON and we become fat burning machines. And those foods aren’t necessarily the ones you’d expect! Most “diet” foods are fat-storers. I’d always believed that the weight gain was my fault—that I was doing something wrong. Now I realized that I’d been doing exactly what I’d been told to do, and the diets were to blame, not me.
